Each week, you are invited to consider a new focused topic that relates to the time period we've discussed. These activities have four objectives:
- Allow you to explore history in a way that interests you.
- Inform you about a particular aspect of American history.
- Help you develop the tools and learn how to think like an historian.
- Articulate your viewpoint on a subject in writing.
You are required to complete four of these lab assignments by the end of the quarter, which consist of a one, single-spaced, analysis of your findings. At the end of the term, you will submit these for a final grade. This is not a reflective essay, but rather a formal evaluation that describes, analyzes, and places these pieces in their historical context.
At some point during the quarter, you may request written feedback and a provisional grade for the content and quality of your work. You can use those comments to improve your lab write-up and inform the rest of your writing. As always, I am glad to help you brainstorm ideas or talk through the assignments at any time.
***Note: You must submit your draft work no later than February 16 to receive a provisional grade and formal feedback.
